At the beginning, I was working on my personal project, researching on how the music impact the animations. This is the time I first found the early music abstract animation by Harry Smith and Oscar Fishinger, one of which is also on our reference list. I was interested by the experimental moving graphics they created.
When I watched the films on the reference list, I was also attracted by CNN Colourscope Blue (Moth Animation Studio, 2017). I was fascinated by Dr. James Fox’s colour theories – How colour impact us on psychological aspect. So I chose this short animation as my topic.
After my initial research mainly focus on animation itself, I realised that it was not only the colour that attracts me. The motion graphic design plays a significant role in this educational animation, and won 2017 ADC awards. As a result, I would like to carry out a research on motion graphic animation, and find the reason why this technique can make “dry” topics such as science based subjects become more interesting.
